Bleaching

In the bleaching process, the dental stones of the patient are first cleaned and polished. After the patient's mouth is cleared of tartar and plaque, the dentist determines the tooth color of his patient with the help of scales and creates a record by taking a photo.

Then, a retractor (cheek-lip separator) is attached to the patient's mouth. In order to protect the gums, a 3–5 mm thick light-curing barrier (protector) is applied to the area where the teeth and gums meet. Then, the active bleaching chemical agent (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, depending on the brand) prepared outside is applied on the teeth.

The patient and the physician wear glasses in order not to be affected by the light source to be used. Afterwards, the light device is started to irradiate the patient's mouth. Depending on the brand, the applied chemical is renewed or mixed and then irradiated again from the light source every 12-20 minutes. This process is repeated 1 or 2 times. Afterwards, chemical agents on the teeth are cleaned with the help of an aspirator. The patient is asked to rinse his mouth well. Tooth color is checked.

The whitening effect will continue until after 24 hours. For this reason, it is necessary to wait 1 day to see the real effect. Other sessions are planned if it is required to be done according to the tooth color and expectations of the patient. It can be supported with office bleaching home bleaching for a good and lasting effect.

The bleaching process is of 2 types.

-Clinical Bleaching System (Office Bleaching)
- Home Bleaching system
-Teeth Whitening System in Clinic (Office Bleaching)

It is the system applied to the patient by the dentist in the practice. Chemical mixtures with high concentration (16-38%) hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are used. Although there are self-activating ones, the general approach is to use bleaching chemicals by supporting them with a light source (halogen light sources, LED light sources or lasers), since their effects are more.

Although different brands have different usage properties, it is applied in 1 hour sessions with a few operations on average from 15-20 minutes. Sometimes a single session may be sufficient, the number of sessions increases depending on the color of the patient's tooth, the density of the tooth color and the structure of the tooth.

Yellow or brownish tooth discolorations become faster and more effective whitening, grayish discolorations turn white in a longer and more difficult process. The number and width of the microscopic pores of the enamel covering the outer surface of the tooth also seriously affect the whitening process. The dentist, who examines all these, decides on the ideal method, the ideal concentration of whitening agent and the number of sessions by considering the patient's wishes.

During the procedure, the gums, lips and cheeks are protected from the chemical agent, and apparatus (retractors) that keep the patient's mouth open are used. After the procedure, tooth sensitivity that usually lasts a few days can be seen.
